Meet the Jaded Team

Kim + Adam = Jaded

Tell us about yourself!

We are Jaded Jewellery. We are a Wife and Husband team from the New Forest in the UK. We have young daughter Addison and a Dog called Bluebell (I’m sure you will see them pop up on our social media!). Whenever we have a spare minute, we are out in the forest raking about in the search for inspiration. Kimberley has recently qualified as a Silversmith and we have set up Jaded Jewellery to share our creations. Watch this space for blogs every 2 weeks or so as any parent knows it’s not easy running a business with a small child.

How did you get started?

Kimberley – I have always been obsessed with jewellery! One of my earliest memories is rummaging through my nan’s jewellery box searching for treasure hoping to take pieces home (which I often did!)

I worked for a well-known silver jewellery retailer for two years and this spurred me on to start designing and creating my own ideas. I began by attending a ‘make a ring in a day’ course which was fantastic! After that day I was hooked. I started studying evenings at college, after a year of doing this I began to create pieces at home and that was it!

I have a work bench set up at home, my own little piece of heaven, this is where I create my pieces. In the future I will definitely be attending more courses and really just learning as much as I can to perfect my craft.

My Workbench at home, where the magic happens.

What’s inspiring you right now?

There’s probably too much to write down! At this very moment in time we would have to say what we would call ‘Art Jewellery’. There are some fantastic artists out there who are creating pieces made from sustainable materials. More and more we are coming across makers who are using paper, card, wood and glass to make their pieces. The results are incredible sculptural designs that have definitely inspired us. A few of our pieces feature naturally shed deer antler and we have recently started using sea glass.

Over all we are inspired by makers who push boundaries, make statement pieces and have a story behind their work.

Any advice for those starting out in the handmade industry?

Youtube and books are great! One of the most useful tools out there is the internet! We have watched countless youtube videos and it really does help when you are starting out and continues to help when you have experience.

Don’t worry if things don’t work out perfectly or as you planned, that is where the magic happens! There are no mistakes just learning curves, a lot of pieces that we make don’t go to plan, but they turn out all the better for it.

What are you most looking forward to in 2019?

This year we are looking forward to building our business and really working to get our name out there. We will be popping up at various artisan markets throughout the year all around the South. Aside from creating product our favourite part of this job is getting out and chatting to people about what we do.
